What is a Touch Panel?

A Touch Panel is an integrated device that combines input and display capabilities, enabling direct user interaction with on-screen content using fingers or a stylus. The core of this technology is the Touch Panel itself, which HOTHMI offers in both capacitive and resistive variants. These versatile Touch Panel solutions support single-point or multi-point control modes. To ensure durability, these control modes are combined with customized high-performance protection solutions. This robust Touch Panel is seamlessly integrated with TFT LCDs using optical or air bonding techniques. This integration process is critical for eliminating air gaps and enhancing readability, resulting in a highly reliable product. Ultimately, this manufacturing approach creates high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective products. Therefore, the advanced Touch Panel is a fundamental component for superior industrial HMI display solutions, meeting the rigorous demands of various applications.

We offer structural configurations such as G+G (glass + glass), G+F (glass + film), G+FF (glass + double-layer film), P+G (PET + glass), and P+F (PET + film) to meet different environmental and mechanical requirements.

How to choose the right touch screen solution?

When choosing a suitable touch screen technology, several factors need to be considered, including product positioning, usage environment, cost, and user experience. Resistive and capacitive touch technologies are complementary, and there is no absolute superiority or inferiority; the only consideration is whether it is suitable for the application scenario.

Whether you need a custom TFT touch panel for industrial, medical, automotive, or consumer electronics applications, HOTHMI ensures superior optical performance, reliable touch response, and robust construction. This custom TFT touchscreen is ideal for applications requiring design flexibility and superior functionality.

FAQ about touch panels

How does the touch panel typically connect to the main control board?

  • Physical connection: This is the most common method. The touch panel is a separate module connected to the motherboard via a dedicated flexible printed circuit board (FPC cable) and connectors. The I2C interface is the mainstream touch panel interface, offering a simple structure, low cost, and strong anti-interference capabilities. Users can also choose the higher-speed SPI interface or the more convenient plug-and-play USB interface.
  • Using the Oncell integration method, the touch sensor layer is directly fabricated on the inside of the top glass cover of the display.
  • Alternatively, a more advanced In-cell integration method can be used, where the touch sensor is directly embedded inside the pixel layer of the LCD screen, becoming part of the display itself.

Are touchscreens waterproof?

Waterproof performance refers to the overall device. The touch panel is an accessory and does not undergo waterproof rating certification. The touch panel itself is waterproof. HOTHMI’s touch panel waterproof rating allows it to function normally even when wet. For devices used in high humidity or even underwater, we apply adhesive to protect the connection between the touch panel and the display screen. The overall waterproof rating needs to be designed in conjunction with the entire device.

Can I use the touch panel while wearing gloves?

Yes.We offer customized touch panels that allow users to use the touch functionality normally even while wearing cotton or plastic gloves. This is typically achieved by using a more advanced touch panel controller.

Is the touch panel drop-proof and impact-resistant?

HOTHMI offers touch panels with custom thicknesses up to 3mm, using Gorilla and Panda, available with 7H/8H/9H hardness.

How is the touch panel bonded to the display screen?

There are two methods for bonding touch panels to a display: air bonding and optical bonding. HOTHMI generally adopts optical bonding for better display quality.
