Q1: Can I directly connect the SPI interface if my main MCU is 5V?

Answer: No, you cannot connect directly. The system operating voltage (VCI) and interface logic level of this module are 3.3V max. Directly using 5V MCU I/O pins to drive SCL, SDA, CS, etc., can easily damage the internal ST7789 driver IC. It is recommended to add a level shift chip (e.g., 74LVC245) between the 5V MCU and the 3.3V screen, or connect a 1kΩ to 2.2kΩ current-limiting resistor in series on each signal line to ensure long-term safety.

 

Q2: The four backlight LEDs are connected in parallel. Can I power them directly with a constant 3.3V voltage?

Answer: Direct constant voltage power supply is not recommended. Although the typical forward voltage (Vf) of the backlight is 3.0V to 3.2V, LEDs have a negative temperature characteristic (forward voltage drops as temperature rises). If a constant 3.3V voltage without current limiting is used directly, the LED current may far exceed the rated 80mA as the screen heats up, causing rapid backlight aging or even burnout. The correct solution is to connect a precisely calculated current-limiting resistor (e.g., a 2Ω to 3.3Ω resistor with sufficient power rating in series with the 3.3V supply), or better, use a constant current driver IC to provide a stable 80mA current.

 

Q3: Will the response speed of this screen slow down in extremely cold environments at -30°C?

Answer: Thanks to the advanced industrial-grade Transmissive LCD Display liquid crystal material formulation, this module has been deeply optimized for wide-temperature operation. At -30°C, although the viscosity of the liquid crystal molecules increases slightly due to physical limitations (resulting in slightly longer response time than at room temperature), it has passed rigorous constant current testing and environmental chamber tests. Unlike ordinary commercial screens, it will not suffer from local crystallization, failure to power on, or severe ghosting, ensuring real-time and efficient data transmission and presentation in industrial field applications.
