Description
3.4 Inch LCD Bar 412×960 ST7701S
Product Introduction
This product is a high-performance 3.4 Inch LCD Bar (model number TFT-H034A02ZDIST3N40). This LCD Bar features a unique bar-shaped aspect ratio with a high-precision resolution of 412 (RGB) x 960 Dots. As a transmissive full-color TFT module, this LCD Bar supports up to 16.7 million colors, delivering an extremely delicate and realistic picture quality.
This LCD Bar module integrates the advanced ST7701S driver chip and supports an RGB + 3SPI hybrid interface. It is perfectly suited for smart hardware, automotive dashboards, smart home devices, and industrial control terminals where space is limited but high display resolution and color saturation are required.

Key Highlights of this LCD Bar
- Full-view full-color display with IPS wide viewing angle: Offers ultra-wide viewing angles of U85/D85/R85/L85, ensuring color remains accurate from any viewing angle.
- Normally black technology with high contrast ratio: Uses normally black liquid crystal technology to deliver deeper black levels, high contrast, and images with greater depth.
- Industrial-grade wide temperature operation: Operating and storage temperatures both reach -30°C to 80°C, allowing this LCD Bar to easily handle harsh outdoor or industrial environments.
- High brightness LCD module: Typical brightness of 350 cd/m² ensures clear visibility in indoor and semi-outdoor environments.
- Ultra-compact design: The display has compact external dimensions (with a PI reinforcement plate interface area thickness of only 0.30±0.05mm), significantly saving internal space in the end product.
Pin Description & Wiring Guide
This module connects to a main control board via a 40-pin, 0.5mm pitch FPC flexible circuit board (gold finger contact surface is the front side). The detailed pin function descriptions are as follows:

Product Applications
Due to the unique vertical/horizontal bar-shaped appearance (412×960 narrow-long resolution) and wide temperature characteristics of this 3.4 Inch LCD Bar, it has extensive application value in scenarios where traditional square displays cannot be used:
- Smart home and appliance control panels: Coffee machines, smart speaker sidebars, high-end refrigerator door displays, range hood control strips, etc.
- Industrial control and portable instruments: Handheld network cable testers, narrow display interfaces for industrial inspection equipment, rack-mounted server status monitoring screens.
- High-end retail and electronic shelf labels: Smart supermarket shelf bar-shaped edge advertising screens, new bar-shaped digital display boards.
Technical FAQ
Q1: Is the interface of this 3.4 inch LCD Bar pure RGB or pure SPI? How should driver development be approached?
A1: This display uses a hybrid RGB + 3-wire SPI interface. It cannot rely solely on the SPI interface to transmit full-frame images at 412×960 resolution. During development, the main MCU/CPU must first write initialization code to the internal ST7701S driver chip via the 3-Line SPI interface (SPI_CS, SPI_SCL, SPI_SDA) to configure the screen’s resolution, timing, and color parameters. Then, the main controller must use the 24-bit RGB hardware bus (DR0-DR7, DG0-DG7, DB0-DB7) along with clock synchronization signals (PCLK, HSD, VSD, DEN) to refresh real-time images at high speed.
Q2: The datasheet mentions an operating temperature range of -30°C to 80°C. Will the display performance degrade in extremely cold or hot environments?
A2: This module is an industrial-grade wide-temperature LCD Bar. In low temperatures of -30°C, ordinary consumer-grade LCDs may show slower response times and significant motion blur, but this product uses optimized liquid crystal materials to ensure good response performance at low temperatures. At high temperatures of 80°C, the clearing point has been rigorously tested to effectively prevent the LCD from turning black or white due to liquid crystal degeneration. Because it is a normally black screen, it maintains stable high contrast across the entire temperature range.
Q3: Why does the backlight not light up at all on this 3.4 inch LCD Bar when I supply 5V to the backlight pins?
A3: This is because the backlight LEDs of this screen are internally connected in series. According to the datasheet’s backlight driving conditions, the typical forward voltage (Vf) is as high as 18.0V to 19.0V. A 5V supply is far below the turn-on threshold of the series-connected LEDs, so they cannot light up. You need to design a backlight boost converter circuit on your main control board to step up the input 5V or 12V to 18V-19V, and strictly limit the output current to a constant 20mA. Applying high voltage directly without a constant current source will instantly damage the LEDs due to overcurrent.
