A: Direct connection of 5V logic signals to the data pins is not supported. According to the official specifications, the operating voltage (VCI) of this module has an upper limit of 3.3V. Although some modules with onboard voltage regulators can accept 5V VCC power input, the logic input pins (SCK, SDA, CS, D/C) are still only 3.3V-tolerant.
If you are using a Raspberry Pi (which natively uses 3.3V logic), direct connection works perfectly. However, for 5V microcontrollers like Arduino Uno, you must insert a level shifter (e.g., 74HC4050 or a dedicated bidirectional level converter) on the data lines. Otherwise, prolonged exposure to high voltage will damage the built-in ST7735S driver IC.
Q2: Can the backlight pin (BLEN) be left floating? How can dimming be implemented?
A: Leaving the BLEN pin floating is not recommended. Although some PCB designs include an internal pull-up, a floating pin is susceptible to electromagnetic noise, which can cause backlight flickering.
Always-On Connection: If you do not need brightness adjustment and want the screen to maintain its maximum 850 cd/m² brightness at all times, you can directly connect the BLEN pin to the 3.3V power positive.
Dynamic Dimming: For adjustable brightness, connect the BLEN pin to a PWM-capable GPIO pin on the Raspberry Pi (e.g., GPIO 18).
